Welcome to America: Ellis Island Simulation

Today the students had the opportunity to experience what it was like to "travel" to Ellis Island in attempts to make America their home! The Ellis Island Simulation provides the students with so much more than any history book can. Take a peek at our immigrants!

We started by becoming immigrants and reading our writing.

We "packed" suitcases for our journey.

Next, we got on our boat that would take us to America.

When we got to Ellis Island, the first thing we saw was the Statue of Liberty.

One in Ellis Island, we had to go through several different stations to see if we were able to make America our new home.

The immigrants had to be interviewed.

They also had to pass a medical exam to be sure they didn't have any diseases.

Next, they had to wait in the information room to pass the legal inspection.

Sometimes we lost things out of our luggage...

....and we had to wait in very long lines.

Sometimes the doctor would mark our clothing with chalk.

{My little immigrant!}

When we finally made it through the stations, we were so excited!
